Republi-congo line
John McCain is what, 77? (he's older than Reagan was, I know that much)

What would happen if he kicked it of natural causes while running for president? Would Romney be popped back in because he was the #2 candidate? Would Ron Paul snag the delegates because he's still in the race?

Just an idle thought.

I would hope not! It's a valid worry, the dude is very old.

Especially considering his temper and how obviously stressed he gets -- I've been sort of half expecting him to have a heart attack any day now.

according to the Manchurian candidate if a vice presidential candidate has been chosen, he would take over, otherwise it would go to the convention floor like it used to

I say give it to his wife, shes kinda hot, she likes beer, and she fucks republicans. Thats all I could ask for in a candidate. I might even bother to vote if it meant I got a shot at her.

Isn't 70 the average life expectancy of a US male?

72 is old enough to be worried about health concerns.

That's only because we have an over-abundance of stupid. Those Darwin Award™ winners don't help the statistics.

I remember a while ago, before the republican primary was wrapped up, he brought out his mom, who is over 100 and still kicking, to demonstrate the longevity that runs in his family. I thought that was pretty funny.

I assume you mean the run-up towards the RNC and not after the official nomination of the Republican candidate.

"Technically" the nomination is decided at the convention with delegates deciding only at the convention who to nominate. This is why you get "presumptive nominee" attached to McCain's name. Everyone else dropped out (eventually) since enough delegates are pledged by state/districts to vote for McCane. All this goes to hell if the presumptive nominee drops out for whatever reason.

I don't think there's been any history on such a case, but I would assume that the candidate would be decided at the convention with brokering on the convention floor and back rooms. Course, it would be a huge clusterfuck with all the previous candidates jumping back in and making a Hail Mary pass to get the nomination. This would be such an amazing show to watch!

Of course, if McCain declared a vice president before he was out of the race, there may be an argument that the declared VP would become the headliner. There's no mandate for such a thing as the actual presidential office succession, but that could be the winning argument 'for the better of the party'.

Anyone's willing to correct me on this.

I think the Republican party would rather shove a midget into McCains dead body and have him run as president before they decided to make Ron Paul their candidate.
