Well! My laptop seems to be about as stable as most jilted exes when attached to a monitor and run as a desktop. (video card instability, I think)

This is one of those moments I'm happy to be on a Mac and have a spare. Booted the laptop into Firewire disk mode, booted the iMac off the laptop. Back in business after one reboot and a quick monitor calibration. Really glad I have two backups of my drive as well, in case of melting.

Do you often attach exes to a Monitor?

My ancient, sluggish iBook gets a bit weird when I've got it hooked to a monitor, but mostly because its video is far too weak to drive my usual madcap screen savers ([info]jwz's xscreensaver for OS X) at 1024x768 on the built-in LCD and 1920x1200 on my desk LCD.

I don't do that much though, since I prefer to work on the couch or the comfy chair, both of which are far from my desk.
