I love Gala apples. Arkansas Blacks are another favorite of mine. :)

They say Arkansas Black make good pies, so I tried it. And ended up with pie.

They're really good! Their flavor actually improves over time. I think they were originally bred to be cold-cellar apples, for over-winter storage. It's weird but true -- when I first by them, their flavor is ok. Nothing special. But if you let them sit for a few months, their color deepens and their flavor improves and becomes much more complex -- and the apple stays crisp! I love them. :)

Ooo! Those are good, too! My father and I will be heading up to Apple Hill soon. We drive up once a year and come back with about 80 pounds of apples. Which last something like, two months. Pies! Pies every week! :)

How can you be sick of apple season? Apples are the Best Fruit! Eve betrayed God and all of humankind for one! I have drunk apple juice basically every day for the past, oh, ten years or so, and it is still my favorite thing in the world.

I think in the last three years I've probably baked/cooked with enough to equal a flat a day for a full year. Washing, peeling, coring, acidulating. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Oh well see there's your problem. You're not supposed to do work around the apples. Just eat them.

Do you have to wear a black tie to eat them?

Pink Lady and Honeycrisp are both excellent apples for eating, not so much for baking.

Not to be eaten if you don't like GMOs though, they were both invented at the University of Minnesota

I just ate a Gala apple before reading this, but it was a janky supermarket one, and kinda subpar.

On what do you base your "gah-la" pronunciation? I cannot find any source for this. I'm not disagreeing but the apple freaks don't give me a clue. And the grocery people in Colorado don't sound like New Yorkers when referring to this fruit.
