So I was doing dishes left out while attending Christmas/Hanukkah this weekend and happened to pick up a jar with dried pasta sauce on the lip.

Somehow, the aforementioned pureed tomatoes hardened into a sharp edge and sliced a 3-inch slit in the palm of my hand. Not too deep, the equivalent to a heavy-duty paper cut. Truly amazing!

I assumed it *had* to be broken glass, but nope. Marinara. The world continues to surprise.

In other news, I just cracked my first novel in a year. "Saturn's Children" by Charles Stross. Every bit as addictive as a Chandler or Phillip K. Dick book.

You think that's bad?

Years ago, I made some Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. One of the macaronis adhered to the side of the metal pot and afterwards, in an attempt to scrape it off with my thumbnail, the sliver of pasta slipped up under my nail an inch or so. I freaked out and got a small sewing needle so as to pry it out. While I was mostly successful, the damage was done; the nail was almost completely separated from the underlying flesh.

In the weeks to come, it became infected and oozed pus. Eventually, a new thumbnail began to grow in underneath the still-present but mostly-separated old nail, and eventually the old one fell off entirely. The entire process was agaonizing and took many weeks to run its course.

All from a sliver of macaroni on a metal pot.

I have not done business with Kraft since then. I realize this is irrational on my part, but emotionally satisfying.

I thought I would never have to relive the horrible feeling I got when I saw that awful commercial with the germ lifting up the toenail, but your story reawakened it.

I once got a paper cut on my lip from a super-thin piece of Whataburger bacon. Bacon should not be paper-thin, nor should it cut its devotees!

Dude, are there any super rare robots still kickin' about? Mine from last year has had so many adventures he's getting pretty beat up, and I fear a little for his safety...
