Hoo ha! I am an insane person who decided to take the train to the San Diego Comicon this year. (booth 1335 / 1337 by small press, as usual) Amtrak is pretty weird and very charming.

I'm about 1/3 the way across the country right now, sitting in a lounge in Chicago. I set up a Tumblr account to easily document the trip without spamming every other service I'm on.

Trak/Trek/Truck

San Diego Comic-Con is in a month. Dumbrella will be there as always, right near and hovering slightly above the other webcomics folks.

I seriously, utterly, totally do not feel like flying. I hate the stress, the timing, the scowling, the x-rays. (on the last flight I took, they x-rayed my laptop so hard the flash drive cooked)

So! When faced by certain irradiation, one does what one must do as an American. One takes a land-based adventure! My current debate is between the flexibility of a solo road trip and the brainlessness of taking the train.

I love driving and have road tripped to SD twice before. Plusses: my own timetable, a quiet room every night, rest stops, last minute merchandise and book carrying power. Minuses: less safe, can't read a book while moving.

Amtrak calls to me for some strange reason. Plusses: no thinking, safer, can walk around the train all day, can read and use my 3G card, moves while sleeping. (And well, it's good enough for Joe Biden.) Minuses: on a schedule, possible delays, sharing tiny bathrooms and having no escape from sweaty humans.

I've never ridden Amtrak. My first extended train ride was the Eurostar from London to Paris, which reduced me to tears of mechanized joy. I'd love to hear about your experiences on trains and photos if possible!

Yes, I know flying is faster and cheaper. I never take a break and go anywhere, though. This is my treat and vacation before the hell of a big con.

Giraffes and MOCCA

I done gone drawed a giraffe yesterday and put him/her on a t-shirt called "Invisible Giraffe." You buy get the aforementioned t-shirt until next week for only $15. I'm experimenting this summer.

I will also be in New Yorkland this weekend for the MOCCA Art Fest. I'll have many socks, CRUSH ALL HU-MANS books and a few squishy plush Red Robots.

Nine hours in the car later, we are back from Toronto drinking out of coffee mugs adorned with the Canadian $20 bill.

They were much cheaper than $20 bills and will be more useful after Armageddon.

I wonder if it would be more or less difficult to launch a ship to space if the Earth actually *was* flat.

Of course since a flat Earth would be infinitely large to maintain a horizon, it would need to also be quite thin. You could burrow to the bottom, open a chute and simply fall to space.

I do not like this world view.

Two fun facts!

I'm packed for the UK Webcomix Thing. (I'll be sitting with Octopus Pie) Still kinda nervy about flying that far over water, but I guess it beats hard packed dirt. No new book for this weekend- but it's still coming eventually.

In my bindlestick: Pocket Sweeties Volume 1, some minicomics, buttons, six special occasion laser-cut red robots and about one dozen each of my four top socks. (robots, skulls, hearts and clouds)

No idea how busy this show is, so come find me if you want any of this! It's not much.

Also fun: I got a ton of requests for "Ask me about my conspiracy theories" t-shirts, so it is up for pre-order as of a couple hours ago. Mr. Cloud helped with the design concept, I'm really pleased with it.
